About this journey

Italian Switzerland, in a single day.

A Lugano day trip from Milan is one of the most unexpected and rewarding excursions in Northern Italy — crossing the border into the Italian-speaking canton of Ticino, Switzerland. An hour and a half from Milan, you arrive in a different country with the same language, more turquoise lakes, and the elegance that only the Swiss seem to achieve.

Lugano is the ‘pearl of Italian Switzerland’ — a sophisticated lakeside town with a Mediterranean climate, Alpine surroundings, palm trees alongside snow-capped peaks. Walk the lakeside promenade, explore the elegant centre, take the funicular to Monte Brè for panoramic views, or simply enjoy a long Swiss coffee at a lakeside café.

A complete day in Switzerland with the comfort of a private MPV from Milan — no train logistics, no border worries, just the most beautiful drive into the Alps and a town that delivers a completely different mood from Italy in less than two hours.

What you’ll experience

The pearl of Italian Switzerland.

Private MPV from Milan

We collect you from your hotel in Milan in a comfortable air-conditioned MPV. Chauffeur service across the border into Switzerland.

Lake Lugano

Turquoise alpine water, surrounded by green mountains. Walk the lakeside promenade — palm trees on one side, snow-capped peaks on the other. The Swiss take on the Italian lake.

Monte Brè funicular (optional)

The historic funicular up Monte Brè (extra ticket, optional) — one of the most spectacular panoramic views in the Alps. Lake, Alps, and the Po Valley stretching to the horizon.

Elegant Swiss-Italian centre

Lugano's centre is a fusion of Italian charm and Swiss precision — cobbled streets, designer shops, art galleries, traditional grotti (taverns). Designer prices, Swiss quality.

Swiss coffee culture

A lakeside espresso at one of Lugano's historic cafés — Pasticceria Marnin, Vanini, or Caffè Olimpia. Swiss precision meets Italian flavour.

A completely different country

In two hours from Milan you're in Switzerland — different currency (Swiss Francs accepted alongside Euros), different vibe, but the same Italian language. The most accessible day trip abroad.

Pricing by group size

€950 for 2 people · €1.050 for 4 people · €1.100 for 6 people. Total tour fee, not per person. Includes the MPV, driver, fuel and tolls (including Swiss highway sticker).

Passports required

Although Switzerland is in Schengen, occasional checks happen at the border. Passports (or EU ID) required. Let us know your nationalities when booking.

Currency

Switzerland uses Swiss Francs (CHF). Most places in Lugano accept Euros (sometimes at a poor rate) and credit cards. ATMs are common. Don’t bring cash specifically.

Funicular and cable cars

Optional extras: Monte Brè funicular (~€20 per person), Monte San Salvatore funicular (~€30 per person). Tell your driver in advance if you want to add these.

Driver vs guide

This is a self-guided day trip with a private driver — not a guided tour. The driver speaks basic English and gives orientation but does not provide commentary in Lugano.

Best season

April to October for full daylight and lake activities. Winter has alpine charm but less daylight and possible weather delays.

What to wear

Layers — Lugano can be 5–10°C cooler than Milan. Comfortable shoes for walking the centre. Lugano dresses smart — not formal, but not casual either.
