About this journey
An Amalfi Coast day trip is the most cinematic excursion in southern Italy — a UNESCO World Heritage stretch of coastline where pastel villages cling to vertical cliffs above turquoise water. The coast that inspired writers from John Steinbeck to Patricia Highsmith, the coast that became the visual signature of Italian summer.
Our first stop is Positano, the most photographed village on the Amalfi Coast — a cascade of pink, peach and white houses tumbling down to a black-sand beach. Walk the narrow stepped streets, browse the boutiques selling handmade leather sandals and linen dresses, photograph the views, swim from the beach if the season permits.
Then onwards to Amalfi, the larger town that gave the coast its name. The magnificent Cathedral of Sant’Andrea, the harbourfront, the lemon groves rising into the hills behind. A complete coastal day with the comfort of a private MPV from your hotel — the famous Amalfi Drive (the SS163) is one of the most beautiful, and most challenging, roads in Italy.
What you’ll experience
We collect you from your hotel in Naples, Sorrento or anywhere on the coast in a comfortable air-conditioned MPV. Chauffeur service throughout the day.
One of the most beautiful and challenging roads in Italy — a clifftop ribbon of asphalt with the Mediterranean below. Your driver navigates it; you simply enjoy the views.
The most photographed village on the coast — a cascade of pink, peach and white houses falling to a black-sand beach. The cliffside views that defined Italian summer.
Positano is famous for its artisan leather sandals (made while you wait) and handmade linen clothing. Browse the boutiques where the Italian elite shop for summer.
The magnificent Romanesque-Gothic cathedral that dominates Amalfi's main square — striped marble façade, bronze doors from Constantinople, the relics of Saint Andrew.
The hills above Amalfi are covered in lemon groves — the famous Sfusato Amalfitano lemons that make the world's best limoncello. Optional tasting stop included.
The tour, step by step
A natural rhythm of the journey, adapted to the season, the weather and your interests.
Start
Your driver collects you from your hotel in Naples, Sorrento, or anywhere on the coast at the agreed time (usually 9am).
+ 30-90 min
The scenic drive depends on your starting location — Naples (~90 min), Sorrento (~30 min). The Amalfi Drive begins after Sorrento, with the views opening dramatically.
+ 2 h
Park above Positano (the village itself is pedestrian). Walk down the famous staircase into the heart of the village — every turn reveals another postcard view.
+ 2.5 h
Free time in Positano — walk the stepped streets, browse the artisan shops, photograph the cascade of houses, optionally swim from Spiaggia Grande beach.
+ 4 h
Free time for lunch at a clifftop or beach restaurant — Da Adolfo (the famous reach-by-boat trattoria), La Cambusa, or any of dozens of fantastic options. Your driver recommends the best.
+ 5 h
The continuation of the Amalfi Drive — 30 minutes of dramatic cliffside views. We pass Praiano, the Fiordo di Furore (a deep gorge with a beach), and Conca dei Marini.
+ 5.5 h
Park near the centre of Amalfi. Time to visit the Cathedral of Sant’Andrea, walk the harbourfront, browse the lemon-themed shops, photograph the town from the sea.
+ 7 h
Optional stop at a traditional lemon grove above Amalfi for a tasting of authentic limoncello and Amalfi lemon products. Most travellers love this.
+ 8 h
The drive back along the Amalfi Drive as the afternoon light turns golden over the sea. Your driver returns you to your hotel — comfortable, unhurried, with two villages lived properly.

Ravello (the inland clifftop village famous for its gardens and music festival) can be added for an extended day. About 30 minutes inland from Amalfi. Magnificent views.
This is a self-guided day trip with a private driver — not a guided tour. The driver speaks basic English, gives orientation and recommendations, but does not provide commentary at each stop.
July and August on the Amalfi Drive can mean significant traffic — we recommend starting at 8am to avoid the worst. Spring and autumn are far more pleasant.
Optional stop at a traditional lemon grove for limoncello tasting — small extra fee (~€15 per person), includes the tour of the grove and tastings of various Amalfi lemon products.
We collect from Naples, Sorrento, Positano, Amalfi, Ravello, or any hotel along the coast. If you’re already on the coast, the day becomes more flexible — let us know.
Comfortable walking shoes (Positano and Amalfi involve steps). Sun protection essential. Swimsuit if you’d like to swim (Mar–Oct). Smart-casual for restaurants.
