murano and burano islands

About this journey

Glass and colour, across the Lagoon.

A Murano and Burano tour by private boat is the most magical way to discover the Venetian Lagoon — two islands that feel like another world entirely. Just minutes from St. Mark’s Square, you’ll find yourself in places where time still runs at the rhythm of fishermen and artisans who have been working the same way for centuries.

Our first stop is Murano, world-famous for its glass-blowing tradition that dates back to the 13th century. Visit a traditional furnace, watch a master glassblower transform molten glass into elegant forms in real time, and walk the canals lined with workshops and showrooms full of remarkable pieces.

Then onwards to Burano, the most photographed island in the Lagoon — its rainbow-painted fishermen’s houses, its centuries-old lace-making tradition, and the leaning bell tower of San Martino. A complete morning of Venetian craft, colour and quiet that most travellers miss.

What you’ll experience

Two islands, two crafts, one day.

Private boat from Venice

We collect you in central Venice in a private motorboat — your own dedicated captain for the entire morning. Comfortable, scenic, with the Lagoon unfolding around you.

Murano glass-blowing demonstration

A visit to a traditional furnace to watch a master glassblower at work — turning molten glass into elegant forms in real time. The craft that made Venice world-famous.

Burano's rainbow houses

The most colourful village in Italy. Every house painted a different bright colour — a tradition originally to help fishermen find their way home in the Lagoon fog.

Burano's lace tradition

The island's centuries-old craft of needle lace — once worn by European queens. We pause at a traditional lace-making shop to see the technique up close.

Leaning bell tower of San Martino

Burano's quirky leaning bell tower — older and more dramatic than Pisa's, less famous, every bit as charming.

The most photographed places in the Lagoon

Both islands are quintessentially Venetian and endlessly photogenic. Your captain knows the best vantage points for the photographs you'll want forever.

Explore Murano

Time to walk the canals of Murano, browse the showrooms, photograph the colourful buildings. Optional gelato stop at one of the island’s gelaterias.

+ 2 h

Boat to Burano

The most beautiful 30-minute boat ride in the Lagoon — small fishing islands, marshes full of birds, the changing light of the open water.

+ 2.5 h

Arrival at Burano

The painted island reveals itself — rainbow houses lining the canals, fishing boats tied to bright orange and pink doors. The most photogenic place in Italy.

+ 3 h

Walking through Burano

Explore the painted streets, visit a lace-making shop, see the leaning bell tower of San Martino. Time for lunch at a traditional Buranese trattoria (optional, at your expense).

Pricing by group size

€850 for 2 people · €900 for 4 people · €950 for 6 people. Total tour fee, not per person. Includes the boat, captain, fuel and entry to the glass-blowing demonstration.

Adding Torcello

We can add a stop at Torcello (the oldest inhabited island in the Lagoon, founded before Venice itself) for an additional fee and an extra hour. Beautiful cathedral, almost no tourists.

Pickup location

We collect you at a pier in central Venice — usually near St. Mark’s, Rialto, or your hotel if it has its own pier. Agreed in advance.

Weather

Boat tours run in most conditions, but extreme weather (heavy fog, storms) may require rescheduling. We’ll confirm 24 hours in advance.

Lunch

Burano has wonderful traditional trattorias — fresh fish, risotto al nero di seppia, Buranese biscuits. Your captain can recommend the best ones. Lunch not included.

Glass purchases

No obligation to buy at the Murano showrooms. If you do want to buy, you’ll see authentic Murano pieces at studio prices — far better than tourist shops back in Venice.

What to wear

Comfortable shoes, layers (the Lagoon can be windy). Bring a light jacket even in summer. Sun protection essential in summer.
